Broadway Across America: Beauty & The Beast
When: Broadway Across America: Beauty & The Beast
Where: Keller Auditorium
Address: 222 SW Clay St, Portland OR, 97201
For those of you who like the classic love stories of Disney, then you will be thrilled to know that Broadway Across America is bringing Beauty and the Beast to Portland. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
Gunther von Hagens: Body Worlds & The Brain
When: Now through Early March
Address: 1945 SE Water Ave, Portland OR, 97214
If you and your significant other aren’t interested in the more traditional romantic events, and are drawn to things more cerebral, take a stroll through OMSI’s most recent exhibit together and visit Gunther von Hagens: Body Worlds & The Brain. This exhibit includes more than 200 authentic human specimens—including entire bodies, individual organs, and transparent body slices. Specimens on display stem from body donors, individuals who donated their bodies to the Institute for Plastination. This all-new presentation highlights neuroscience, brain development, and performance and invites profound reflection on the power, beauty, and fragility of the amazing human body and brain. After all, it’s what’s inside that counts.
Shakespeare’s Amazing Cymbeline
When: Now through April 8th 2012
Where: Portland Center Stage
Address: 128 NW 11th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209
What is more romantic than taking in a Shakespearian show with your significant other? Portland Center Stage is now showing Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. Based on legends about early Celtic kings, Cymbeline is one of Shakespeare’s most fantastical creations–familiar Shakespearean themes of jealousy and innocence wronged are joined with divine intervention from the gods. A lovely princess, an evil queen, a misguided king and a thoroughly rotten clown inhabit this fairy tale-like story of life, and love, renewed.
