Portland Fall Destinations

In addition to the late-summer events that were detailed in our previous blog post, Portland boasts amazing sights and must-see events throughout the fall and into winter. Here are four classic Portland destinations that are easily accessible from Hotel Modera, your favorite downtown Portland hotel:

Portland Saturday Market

The free Portland Saturday Market is open rain or shine, from 10-5 on Saturdays and from 11-4:30 on Sundays, through December 24. The nation’s largest weekly open-air arts and crafts market is located in Waterfront Park at the Skidmore Fountain MAX station.

Lan Su Chinese Garden

Lan Su Chinese Garden is a year-round wonder that is open daily. The Ming Dynasty style garden, complete with covered walkways, bridges, pavilions, and a richly planted landscape, frames a picturesque lake in an urban oasis constructed by artisans from Portland’s sister city of Suzhou. Tours are available and the garden’s teahouse serves light snacks and traditional teas. Lan Su Garden is at NW Third Avenue and Everett Street

Oregon Zoo

At the Oregon Zoo, you can travel around the world in an afternoon, observing more than 2,000 animals. This conservation zoo is renowned for its Asian elephant breeding program. The Oregon Zoo is located in Washington Park, five minutes from downtown on Hwy 26 West, or approximately 10 minutes via the MAX light rail. The zoo is open daily.

Portland Art Museum

Find out why the oldest museum in the Northwest is known for exciting art experiences. Located in the heart of downtown’s cultural district, the Portland Art Museum includes an outdoor sculpture courtyard and historical interiors. Each Sunday, the museum features family activities. Through January 12, the museum is pleased to present the 2013 Contemporary Northwest Art Awards, showcasing six amazing artists from Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Wyoming.

  2. We enjoyed our visit to Oregon Zoo. It is clean and well laid out. The animals seem to be well looked after and the additional train ride was nice. One of the better zoos.
